Why HopeWorks? That’s really the question, isn’t it? And it is truly best answered by one of our 1,100+ graduates in their own words.
HopeWorks students come to us from all walks of life – many that have left them battered, dejected and without much hope at all. But we firmly believe that a twice-convicted felon can turn into a hard-working, faith-professing individual by the grace of God! Having seen this time and again, this is why our many supporters and volunteers get involved at HopeWorks. Seeing the transformative work of God in the lives of our students is worth supporting.
How to Get Involved
Getting involved at HopeWorks can mean a number of things, from being a lunch provider or faith encourager, to providing commodities and volunteering at events. HopeWorks also relies on financial support in the form of donations from people who believe our holistic approach to changing a life is well worth the investment.
Whatever you are called to do, know that your service and support helps our students who wish to break the cycle of crime, addiction and generational poverty to lead a changed life.
Faith Encouragers are a critical part of the holistic approach we provide at HopeWorks. These volunteers focus on supporting and encouraging our students as they learn new job skills and habits, finish their educational training and are challenged to live a responsible, Christ-centered life. Our faith encouragers are assigned to a specific student and spend one lunch day per week eating and interacting with the student at HopeWorks’ facilities. We’ve seen participants and students in this brief one-on-one experience turn into life-long friends. Upon graduation, “faith encouragers” can turn into “work encouragers” when a job is found and the process continues! When HopeWorks classes are in session throughout the year, all of our students and staff share a daily meal together at lunch. This is a wonderful time of fellowship and an excellent way to serve our program. Typically, individuals and church groups will take one day per month or quarter and provide lunch for our students and staff. We encourage our lunch providers to stay and eat with our students after serving and interact with them as much as possible. To sign up for a date to provide lunch or for more information, fill out the “Get Involved” form below!
Commodities and Needs
A secondary portion of the HopeWorks program is dedicated to providing the community and those in need with basic commodities and supplies. Numerous agencies throughout the city of Memphis recommend persons in need to visit HopeWorks every Tuesday, and this is a great opportunity to volunteer your time and resources. Donating supplies is our main need in this arena, as well as periodic help sorting this bank of supplies. Click here for a list of supplies and fill out the “Get Involved” form below for more information!
HopeWorks has an active presence in several men’s and women’s prisons and jails throughout West Tennessee. Members of our staff visit regularly to encourage prisoners, teach “New Life Behavior” classes and assist with worship services.
