Student Coordinator: Adult English as a Second Language

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director
JOB STATUS: Exempt
Rate of Pay: $45,666
The Student Coordinator works with the Adult ESL Team to communicate with Adult English Language Learners. The Student Coordinator will create and update student files and data; keep and report accurate attendance records; check files and data for accuracy and test and enroll students. The Student Coordinator will assist in other processes related to student support. The Student Coordinator will welcome students and support them throughout the Adult ESL stages including enrollment, orientation and testing. Availability to work two (2) evenings per week is required. Availability to travel between various site locations is required
The successful Student Coordinator should understand basic customer service principles, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all students. Proficiency with computers and software, such as Google Sheets and Google Docs is required. Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations while maintaining focus on serving students are very important in this position. This individual should be flexible, efficient, organized, and capable of independently solving problems.

Lead Instructor: Adult English as a Second Language

Rate of Pay: $55,000 – $58,000 annually
The Lead Instructor of Adult English as a Second Language works with the Adult ESL instructional team to prepare and execute instruction of students, as well as coach and support other AESL instructors. The Lead Instructor can expect to prepare lessons, instruct students, collaborate with staff, manage sites and other instructors, contact students regarding progress, record and verify accuracy of data. The Lead Instructor should be an engaging instructor who uses performance data to inform instructional decisions, willing to work with a team to accomplish program goals, and conscientious about keeping and recording accurate records. This individual is responsible for helping students progress in their English skills (as evidenced by achieving measurable skills gains) and other goals.
The successful AESL Lead Instructor should understand data-based instruction and possess a strong understanding of the structure and use of the English language with the ability to relate to and build rapport with people of diverse backgrounds. The Lead Instructor should have proficiency with computers and software, such as G Suite, Google Classroom, and Promethean Boards. They should be reliable, professional, and have excellent interpersonal skills. As part of the full-time workload, the AESL Instructor will be required to work at least 2 evenings per week from 5:45-8:15pm and will be asked to teach at any of the sites listed below:
Monday/Wednesday 9:30-11:30am: HopeWorks Summer Ave.
Monday/Wednesday 6-8pm: HopeWorks Summer Ave, Collegiate School of Memphis, Power Center Academy
Tuesday/Thursday: 9:30-11:30am: HopeWorks Summer Ave
12-2pm: Virtual
6-8pm: Virtual

The Adult ESL Instructor works with the Adult ESL instructional team to prepare and execute instruction of students. The instructor can expect to prepare lessons, instruct students, collaborate with staff, manage sites, contact students regarding progress and record and verify accuracy of data. They should be an engaging instructor who uses performance data to inform instructional decisions, willing to work with a team to accomplish program goals, and conscientious about keeping and recording accurate records. The Adult ESL Instructor is responsible for helping students progress in their English skills (as evidenced by achieving measurable skills gains) and connect with students to track attendance and progress.
The successful Adult ESL Instructor should have an understanding of data-based instruction, strong understanding of the structure of the English language, ability to relate and build rapport with people of diverse backgrounds, and proficiency with computers and software, such as G Suite, Google Classroom, and Promethean Boards. They should be reliable, professional, and have excellent interpersonal skills. They should also be able to differentiate instruction based on student needs and integrate skills and content to deliver cohesive integrated lessons.
Depending upon the location, the instructor will either work M/W from 5:45pm-8:15pm or T/Th from 5:45-8:15pm. The part-time Instructor will be requested to work at one of the following locations:
Power Center Academy, 5390 Mendenhall Mall, Memphis, TN
HopeWorks, 3337 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN
Highland Church of Christ, 400 N Houston Levee Rd, Cordova, TN
Collegiate School of Memphis, 3353 Faxon Ave, Memphis, TN

The instructor is responsible for ensuring an educational atmosphere where adult students residing in Correctional facilities have the opportunity to fulfill their academic and career goals by earning a High School Equivalency (HISET) Diploma and/or growing their basic skills in Math, Language, Science, Social Studies, and Reading, as demonstrated by progressing through the six Educational Functioning Levels defined by the National Reporting System (NRS).
The successful ABE Instructor should have an understanding of data-based instruction, strong understanding of Basic Adult Education, ability to relate and build rapport with people of diverse backgrounds, and proficiency with computers and software, such as G-Suite, Google Classroom, and Promethean Boards. He or she should be reliable, professional, and have excellent interpersonal skills. They should also be able to differentiate instruction based on student data and needs, and integrate skills and content to deliver a cohesive integrated lesson.
