Why should I get my GED or high school equivalency diploma?

Finishing high school can be difficult. Sometimes, traditional schooling isn’t even an option. But, your circumstances do not define your future. At HopeWorks, we believe it’s never too late to go back to school! So, why is it important to earn your HiSET? And, how do you know if now is the right time?

First, let’s break down the language! The state of Tennessee uses the HiSET, which is a high school equivalency diploma. Though it’s similar to the GED, it’s not exactly the same. So, the two names aren’t interchangeable. If you’re looking to get your high school equivalency diploma in Tennessee, you’ll actually need to go through the HiSET process.

HiSET provides a way for you to get ahead if you didn’t earn your high school diploma. It serves as a way to verify your education level. A high school diploma is usually required to go to additional school – like technical programs, community colleges or universities). HiSET can serve in place of your high school diploma.

Not only does earning your HiSET mean you can further your education, but it also means you can access more meaningful careers. You’ll be more qualified for better paying jobs that can support your family. Think about your feeling of achievement knowing you invested in your future. You will gain more self-confidence and will also set a great example for your children.
