Make resolutions like a HopeWorks student
Our mission is simple – we want to give Memphians who need a second chance a Christ-centered space to learn and grow through education, counseling and career development programs. The individuals we help are impressive. With the new year quickly approaching, we think everyone should be making resolutions like a HopeWorks student.
Resolution one: HiSET
Through our HiSET program, we want to give everyone a chance to learn. To us, it does not matter why you didn’t finish high school. It also does not matter what happened in your life between then and now. What matters is that you want to finish, and we want to be there to help you along the way. When it comes to your education, we meet you where you are. Not every student is the same, and we want to make sure that each student is getting the help they need in the areas they need it. Have you been thinking about going back to school? Why wait? Make education a priority in 2023. Make the resolution to keep learning.
Resolution two: Employment Essentials
Being in the professional world is hard. It’s important that you do your best at your jobs, but relationships with your peers and employers is also a huge part of the equation. In addition to growing professional skills, students in our Employment Essentials program receive counseling and a faith encourager to give spiritual guidance. At HopeWork, we believe that employment is a gift from God, and you can use that job to honor Him. Find a friend to walk in faith with, start making the changes you need to in your life and make honoring God a priority in 2023. Make the resolution to become a stronger employee.
Resolution three: AESL
AESL is our adult English as a second language class, but it’s so much more than just learning the language. Yes, we want you to be more confident in your abilities to speak the language, but we also want you to confidently go out into Memphis and live. It’s more than just the language. In this program, you’ll also learn about the culture and history of the U.S. Our goal is to help you feel like you can maneuver through Memphis on your own, and we want you to genuinely feel like a part of the community. Take the plunge in the new year. Make the resolution to learn about other cultures and be friendly to your neighbors.
Resolution four: H2H
Hope2Hire is a program that runs in the Shelby County Division on Corrections to teach technical skills to incarcerated individuals. To prevent turning back to a life of crime and prison, having the skills to find a stable job that pays a liveable wage is a huge factor. H2H hopes to prepare inmates for a better future and prevent them from making the same mistakes as before. Add this to your 2023 list. Make the resolution to turn away from bad habits and to lean into good influences.
We are proud of our students and what they are doing in their lives. We think that everyone should be a little more like them. 2023 is just a few weeks away. We hope our students can inspire you to make some positive changes in your lives.
