The power of having hope
Hope is an important aspect of what we do at HopeWorks — so important it’s in the name of our organization. We want people participating in our programs to have stability, confidence and a hope-filled future by fostering a relationship with God. Hope is a powerful thing to have, and we want everyone to be able to experience it.
What is hope in Christ Jesus?
When you think of hope, you probably associate it with wishful thinking — a desire to have something pan out in a certain way. However, did you know that the Bible gives us a different definition of what hope is? The Bible teaches us hope is trusting that Christ will fulfill the things He’s promised us and leaning on His death and resurrection as the ultimate example. Having hope is a vital part of Christianity, and it’s also a vital component of our mission at HopeWorks. This is why our Christian roots are an important component of our mission.
Remember that God has a plan for your life.
Being rooted in the Christian faith can help you on your journey in the job market. Christ has a plan for you — no matter where you have been or where you are in your life, God has a plan for your future. When you are grounded in your faith and seeking a relationship with God, you’ll start to be able to see your path more clearly. As Christians, we believe all that we do should be to glorify the Lord, and your job is no different. Colossians 3:23-24 gives us a great reminder of this: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
How can HopeWorks help?
The bottom line at HopeWorks is to give Memphians who need a second chance at life practical job skills while building a relationship with Christ. Through our Employment Essentials program, we can help you focus on fostering and improving areas in your life that are essential to your career — building relationships, taking on responsibilities and being a team player — while also helping you on your journey with Christ. We want to help provide you with a job while also giving you Christ-inspired hope.
Even after graduation from our programs, our faith encouragers will stick with you to help you land internships, interviews and jobs to get you started on your career path. We don’t just want to provide you with the training to start your career, we want to see that career fulfilled. We want your definition of hope to be more than “wishful thinking”. We want you to see the power of hope in Christ and His promises fulfilled.
Whether it’s through education, counseling or employment services, our hope is to create more Christ-centered communities throughout Memphis. We believe that those communities are vital for building relationships, improving economies and impacting future generations.
