It’s hard to believe this was the 30th year of the HopeWorks golf tournament. This little fundraiser started in 1995 has grown to be the largest fundraising event we host.
Over the years, many businesses, churches and individuals have been eager to participate in this annual tournament, and this year was no exception. Appreciation goes out to the sponsors and all the teams that came out to Oakland for a beautiful false-fall day of golf.
A highlight of the tournament has become the presentation of the Verlon Harp Memorial Award given to a HopeWorks Alumni who exemplifies the character lived out by the former director. This year, Marques Curry, a 2005 graduate of HopeWorks and current Journeyman Electrician with Ellendale Electric, was the recipient.
Volunteers from HopeWorks’s staff welcomed the players and made sure all were fed and watered well. The Fair Oaks staff helped run things smoothly.
